Alice is a vibrant, lovely lady, widowed, aged in her 90’s, and living independently within a retirement complex. The owners of the retirement complex are introducing a new care model designed to ensure residents never need to move out, effectively living out their days in their independent living unit, with no fear of having to move to a high level care facility (nursing home).
Alice’s family wanted to investigate all aspects of this offer before it was accepted or declined. They did attempt to do all the research themselves, but soon found it very overwhelming as they tried to understand all the language, acronyms and navigate the government protocols in place. The more research they did, the more confusing the process, and the community aged care system, became.
Kinfolk Consulting were contacted by Alice’s son and asked to meet with the family to help them understand this new care model being offered. The initial meeting took place with Alice and her family, and following this meeting, a second family meeting was arranged with the coordinator of the new care model at the retirement complex.
Being experts in community aged care, Kinfolk Consulting were able to ask all the right questions, and discuss many scenarios and variables during this process. After this second meeting, Kinfolk Consulting prepared a detailed report for Alice and her family outlining all the benefits, the pros and the cons, including financials, of several alternative scenarios. Receiving this information, in plain English, empowered Alice and her family to clearly make the right decision regarding Alice’s current and future care planning needs. Alice decided that it was definitely to her advantage to proceed and accept the offer.
